6th Grade Critique

Most students love the art standard for producing artwork! After all, creating something and working with your hands is one of the fun things about art. An equally important art standard is the discussion and/or analysis of artwork. In class we talk about famous and historical work and students get to discuss their work and the work of their classmates. The later is something typically done during a critique. Critiques can be conducted while students are working on a project, then they can seek feedback which will guide their decision making while completing the work. Also, critiques can take place at the culmination of a project. There are so many different ways to do a critique and I try to switch it based on the grade level and type of project it is. Below are photos from 6th grade class critiques for their Mandala printmaking projects. With this method the work is kept anonymous and students write notes in their sketchbook about different pieces, we then share out with the entire group and by the end every piece has been covered. Enjoy and come back soon for some close-up photos of the Mandala projects!
