Perspective Assignment- Due 1/4

DUE: MONDAY JANUARY 4th

Your goal over the upcoming vacation:

Locate or photograph at least TWO reference images that could provide the basis for an acrylic painting.

Your images should:

•Include architectural structures and space showing the use of one or two-point PERSPECTIVE.

• Be photos taken by you or someone in your family –go out with your digital camera and photograph buildings or a location that you find interesting – think about barns, houses, cityscapes, businesses, industrial places. Look for family vacation photos that could work well.

Please DO NOT rely on the internet as a source for your references! Subject matter is everywhere you look.

On Monday 1/4 you must have the image with you! It is okay to bring it on a jump/flash drive or camera memory card. We can then print them in color during class.

Extra Credit-Due Wednesday 12/23

Please go to the same websites listed for the midterm practice essay. Choose 3 different drawings and/or paintings (2-D work only) that exhibit one or two-point perspective and print them, grayscale is okay. First, identify whether it is one or two-point perspective. Then with a brightly colored marker or highlighter please identify and label the horizon line, vanishing point and orthogonal lines. Staple them together if they are on separate sheets of paper and write your name on top. Extra credit is worth 50 points and is due on Wednesday 12/23.

They they created a puzzle, cut out their prints in the shape of that puzzle, and then collaged pieces back into the original composition. One print from each student is currently on display in the art wing at Sutherland High School.

Work on Display

I wanted to take a chance to recognize some of the students whose still life work is on display right now in the cases at Sutherland. Congrats to Xuanyu A., Jennifer S., Tori W., Heather S., Will P., and Lia O. There will be lots of opportunities for display so keep workin' hard! A couple reminders: We are having our Color Theory & Printmaking quiz on Tuesday 11/10 and there is no school on Wednesday November 11th. We will also be beginning the final step of our printmaking project on Monday!!! Soon I will post the Quarter 2 sketchbook assignments.

Switching Gears

We are currently working on exercises to prepare for our next unit. At this point everyone is done with their still life and the projects have been graded and returned. We have been studying color theory and using watercolor to practice what we have talked about. We will then connect it to our printmaking unit by having the students work with different types of line to create a new collage. We will begin our printmaking unit on Wednesday or Thursday. First we will discuss printmaking and the many different ways artists have used it in the past. We will also discuss its importance in todays society. We will then discuss the guidelines of the project and begin working.

Thank You!!

Thank you to everyone who helped make my birthday yesterday extra special! I had a great day and was happy I got to celebrate with you!! We are officially done with our still life assignment, woo hoo!!! I will be working on grading them and will have them back to you as soon as possible. Next up we will do a two day discussion on color theory. Then we will do an exercise to prepare us for our next project which is printmaking.

Extra Credit #1- Due Monday 9/28

In class we explored the elements of art. The elements are the basic vocabulary for creating and analyzing works of art. For extra credit, create an "Elements Book" no larger than 5 inches by 5 inches. You may fold a sheet of paper to create your pages or you may staple pages together. The front cover of the book must say "Elements of Art", and your name needs to be on the back cover. Label each page with one of the seven elements of art. Then use magazine photographs or internet print outs, and give one example for each element. Tape or glue the example under the label. This extra credit builds off of the elements exercise we did in class, and reinforces your understanding of the elements of art. This is an art project, be unique and have fun. The most creative books will receive the maximum number of points. Due Date:9/28 Points:50

Quarter One Sketchbook Assignments

You will be getting this hand out on Friday 9/11. If you lose it, this post will be your resource.

As discussed on the first day, sketchbook assignments are a requirement for the Studio Art course. A sketchbook is a tool for improvement and documents your growth as an artist. You may choose to provide your own sketchbook, or you may add blank paper to the inside of your Studio Art folder. Assignments are to be done for homework.  Any student working on their sketchbook assignment in class, without permission, will receive half credit for that assignment. Miss Keiser's Artwork

This is a collection of my artwork that ranges from 2000 to the present. I have worked in a variety of media including both traditional and experimental photography, drawing, painting, printmaking, bookmaking, sculpture and jewelry.

Welcome

Welcome to Miss Keiser's Art Blog!! I am so excited to be part of the Sutherland family and look forward to a creative year. Just like most of you, it is my first year at Sutherland High School. I have a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a photography concentration from The University at Buffalo and in May I received my Masters in Art Education from Nazareth College. I love art and photography and you can often find me at the Memorial Art Gallery or the George Eastman House. I have also had the opportunity to travel, where I love to experience history, architecture and of course art, from other cultures. It is my hope that this blog is used to open the lines of communication between myself, students and parents. Please check back often for new blogs, assignments/hand-outs, extra credit opportunities, and most importantly student artwork!
