6th Grade Abstract Name Designs

The sixth grade classes did an exercise to explore the concept of positive and negative space. They created a design using their name, filled the shapes with black Sharpie, then they cut and rearranged the squares into an abstract design. Finally, they added colored Sharpie to the white (negative) space. Below is an example of the process, following that are some student examples!

8th Grade Theme Drawings- Oil Pastel

Below are oil pastel drawings done by eighth grade students. Their drawings are based on a reference photo that they took or found online. The subject matter has to be related to the theme they chose at the start of the semester. Some of the themes include movement, nature, place, emotion, and sports & games.

7th Grade Animal Zentangles

Below are examples of the Animal Zentangle artwork done by our seventh graders. Students started the unit by taking an animal personality quiz to find out which animal or animals have the same personality traits they do. They then chose a reference photo and recreated the photo into a pencil drawing. They then added patterns and colored Sharpie to create their Zentangle.

Ten Week Mark!

Holy cow, how have ten weeks passed so quickly?!? Just a friendly reminder that we do not assign report card grades for art, for the 10 week marking period. Since we only see you every other day, we consider this our 5 week point. Currently you have been able to finish one exercise and a major project and we do not feel that those grades always represent an accurate measure of how you are progressing in art. If you are ever curious about your progress, feel free to check out Infinite Campus or just ask me!
