Welcome Miss Paas!

Dear CRMS Families,

Hi! My name is Miss Paas. I will be the Student Teacher in Mrs. Warchol’s classroom leading up until winter recess. I am a student at Alfred University, studying Art Education and I am currently in my last semester of school. I will be earning my Bachelor’s Degree in December. I have wanted to be an art teacher since I was in elementary school and student teaching is one of the final steps for me in accomplishing this dream.

I look forward to working with all of your children. I have a lot of experience at the elementary level, but this is my first time teaching middle school and I am very excited! Prior to my student teaching assignment at Calkins, I worked at Alfred Almond Elementary School in grades K-6 as a Teacher’s Aide for the 2017-2018 school year. I also just finished my first student teaching placement at Churchill Elementary School. As a student teacher, I will be working with Mrs. Warchol to plan lessons and prepare activities that will show our students the broad range of opportunities available to them in art. It is my goal to spark curiosity in your kids; I can’t wait to help them explore new art mediums and new ways to express themselves.

Sincerely,
Miss Paas

Happy New Year!

Welcome to Mrs. Warchol's Art website, I am so excited to have YOU in my class this year! I hope you've had a fun and restful summer, it went too fast. This is my tenth year in Pittsford and my eighth year at CRMS. In addition to teaching art, I also advise the Art Club. I have been involved in the arts since I was in high school. I went to The University at Buffalo and got my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in photography. I worked as a photographer right out of college and still own my own photography business. After about five years I decided to go back to college to get my Masters Degree and teaching certificate from Nazareth College. You can often find me at the Memorial Art Gallery or the George Eastman House. I love art so much, I married a graphic designer. Mr. Warchol is a Senior Art Director at Partners and Napier. We have a Boston Terrier named Rocko, he is kind of artistic, he mostly makes sculptures out of chewed shoes!

Please continue to refer back to the blog for class updates, student artwork, and art club announcements. If you are curious to see the kinds of artwork we will be making, click on the grade level gallery tabs above. For daily updates please follow us on our Instagram page: @crms_art If you have your own IG page and post your own artwork don't forget to tag crms_art, we'd love to see what you are creating outside of class.

Over the summer Mr. Warchol and I traveled to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and California. Here are some photographs from our trip, see you soon!

Report Card Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that we do not assign report card grades for art, for the thirty week marking period. Since we are a semester class, and only see you every other day, we consider this our five week point. Currently you have been able to finish one exercise and we are wrapping up our first major units of study, and we do not feel that those grades always represent an accurate measure of how you are progressing in art. If you are curious of your progress, feel free to check Infinite Campus or just ask me!

8th Grade Value Paintings

Here are some of the first semester, 8th grade value paintings. Students started by choosing subject matter that matched their theme. We then put the photo in Photoshop, turned it black and white and added a filter. Students then created a grid on their photo and project paper, in order to enlarge and create their drawing in proportion. After students completed their drawing, they used six values of acrylic paint to fill in their drawing. The results are amazing!
