7th Grade Self-Portraits: Cardboard & Sharpie

The following pieces were created by seventh grade students. They first learned about contour line drawings and did an exercise with a brown paper bag, you can see them here. To begin the portraits, I photographed them and they created these portraits from those reference photos. They began by drawing on the cardboard in pencil, then they outlined with black Sharpie. To create a background (in the form of texture) they ripped the top layer of cardboard off, revealing some of the corrugated sections. They could rip as much or as little as they liked, students then had the choice to add color.
