This week our seventh grade students have been working with visiting artist Jeremy Stock. Jeremy is a professional comic, cartoon and caricature artist who lives in Buffalo, NY.
Jeremy began by introducing his work and talking about his path to becoming a professional artist. He also talked about design & composition, the history of comics, and showed similarities between comics and Ancient Egyptian & Cave Art.

During Jeremy's second visit he started working with students to understand the layout and construction of their pages. He also helped to facilitate group collaboration and brainstorming to decide on subject matter and storyline, the results are varied and hilarious!

The students will work with their art teacher for the next four classes to create the layout and final drafts of their comic book. Jeremy will then come back for two classes to help them finalize and ink their pages. After a little digital magic done by Jeremy, the students will have a copy of their own comic book to take home. We could not have had this amazing opportunity without the support of our administration and the PTSA. Even though Art is a huge component to this work, students have been incorporating other subject areas like Social Studies, ELA and Math. They have also demonstrated teamwork, leadership and problem solving. Stay tuned for updates in the next couple of weeks.
