We began by learning about the different types of sculpture processes and about sculpture artists including Paley and Calder. Paley is currently working in the Rochester area and many of his sculptures can be seen in the community. The students were asked to select an object and break it down into at least ten simple shapes. They then created an abstract paper sculpture of that object by repeating and changing the scale of those shapes. They constructed their sculptures using only black and white paper and glue. Some objects included a calculator, pencil sharpener, metronome, cello and fire extinguisher. Please enjoy, unfortunately the photographs don't capture how amazing most of them are.
